Lifted trucks are fine and good. But more lift =/= better in a lot of cases. this is probably a 6 inch lift with 3 inch front diff drop and 35 inch tires. I wouldn’t care because, hey...maybe rock crawler...but his tire choice and stickers tell me otherwise. Methinks this guy is all bout that aesthetic. Which is just silly. I pit y that poor 3.5 pushing this truck around, it could even be as slow as my land cruiser. poor thing. for reference in size my 2 inch lifted land cruiser on 33's is in the background, and this is what it looks like from inside
at least he’s aware of his lack of speed.
“no mud” “no lotus”
His tailgate release is ABOVE my hood, which is already high enough that I can’t really get into the engine bay without a stool.

Every-time I go the RV show I ask myself how one makes that happen, because there is an clearly a way to make a ton of money and still be a total moron.

If they were serious about off roading, they wouldn’t have bought the TRD Sport model. The hood scoop and body colored fender flares/trim show the world t hey bought the one without all the fancy off-road stuff stock.

In my line of work I interact with a lot of independently wealthy business owners and I can confidently say there is minimal correlation between money and brains. In many cases, people have “made it” because they just dumb enough to take the risks that rational people wont take when starting a business.

Usually the shortest bro..
Black Fuel wheels, ugly huge bumper, ridiculous lift, in a mall parking lot..
I’m more curious why you would shell out for a Limited, and then slap all that junk on it..

For-hire video production for wannabe influencers that can’t (or don’t want to) do it themselves? Just get paid up front.

Gotta love a ll that unsprung weight! I’ve got a 4.7 tundra with 33s on it and I’d hate any extra mass - that’s the limit. That massive front bumper probably adds another 40 lbs to the very front of the truck... excellent for the weight balance.

The only people that don’t chronically undervalue photography are corporations .
“you want how much for a wedding video? $100 0 of my real dollars?! all you have to do is follow me around for hours, make me look good in the worst possible lighting conditions and spend several hours putting it together and distributing it. Look I’ m a pretty big deal on instagram, why don’t you do it for exposure value, the money it will make you in the long term will be worth it. ”
vs
“Just got your bid for our 30 second ad piece, $23,000 with a full day shoot and edit sounds good . thanks ”

I still haven’t quite got the point of a front bumper in the US except a place to hang lights and look cool.
I guess if you want a winch but even then you are better off just hiding it behind the factory bumper on a dedicated plate to save weight. I do admit they make the vehicle look better in some cases, but the cost ($1000-1500) and weight (40-200 lbs) just don’t seem worth the tradeoff. We just don’t have the same animal strike problem as Australia where they were popularized.

They look OK on older trucks - I considered buying one because used because it would be the same cost as repainting my pocked up stock bumper cover (rock chips & insects have taken their toll). Trucks like the new Tacoma, Silverado and Ram look so overdone. What even is this?

Clearance to fit bigger meats, and a place to put stuff. I know, for instance, 33s are tight on a 4Runner without a bmc and decent bumper trimming.
The price though...gosh. I’d be more afraid to mash up the pricey off-road bumper than the stock one.

Y ou can’t do 33's without bumper trimming? interesting. 2nd gen tacoma fits 33's nicely with a little fender well trimming and small lift and, frankly, looks better without a bumper

I don’t hate the guy for doing it, I more feel for him. Im not that old, my truck isn’t that tall and I have side steps and even I sometimes get sick of jumping up into my truck.

its not that it doesn’t happen, my rav4 was killed by a deer, but its not as pervasive and life altering as far as being in a super remote place with a busted radiator. my buddy hit a deer with his tacoma (picture in this post somewhere) and you can’t even tell. I still can’t figure out how he did that.

It’s not visible externally at least, you just have to trim the bumper edge inside the fender well. The amount of trimming required also depends on the wheels you’re using as well. Stock offsets are safe, but get much into negative offsets and more trimming is required.
Externally, I prefer stock looking bodies for the most part. The front of the 4Runner is pretty goofy. Some of the aftermarket bumpers look ok compared to stock (CBI, Heftyfab). Still, they aren’t on my purchase list.

Sure, but just because it may not be quite as life- threatening as being stranded in the outback (though some parts out your way could be similarly so), doesn’t mean it’s a completely invalid concern. I replaced 3 headlights and a fender on my car in the past 2 years, both front doors and hood weren’t bad enough to fix, due to deer. If I cared that much about it to replace everything, even doing the work myself, it’s a grand in parts. A bumper like that could pay for itself. There’s also the brush and rocks protection that you’d get.
And hey, if everyone only ever bought what they needed, aftermarket companies would have a much tougher time making a business case for things, or they’d have to sell them for much more to make any kind of profit.

I’m a fan of the tub ed out pre-runner style bumpers, protect ya from the rocks a little, not too heavy, place to hang a winch. Those big-ass laser cut, angular Road Warrior bumpers are a waste of weight and space. Helped my neighbor put one on his Tundra, thing weighed 165 pounds. Dumb. I avoid using the term “brodozer” because I happen to like big-ass lifted trucks, but if I did use that term, it would be totally aimed at the crazy bumper, 10 million candlepower LED bar douche lords...

A bullbar should save you from being stranded. But don’t assume that it will prevent any damage. In many cases, the bar transfers the shock to the frame and bends it (been there, done that) or the bar is flexed back into the body (destroying both the bar and the vehicle...done that too).
All our current vehicles have bars. Two of them have had barwork for 15 years. So far neither have suffered a large animal strike but we are under no illusions...if we hit a roo then the car is probably as dead as the roo.

I can see hitting something large like a moose or elk, but a deer is not going to bend a frame. As for the damage itself, that’s depend on how solid the guard is, whether it’s just a place to mount extra lights or actually heavy enough to be useful, like rock sliders vs sidesteps.
the bar transfers the shock to the f rame and bends it (been there, done that)
How fast and what did you hit? That’s impressive.

We nailed a mid size roo mid flight at 80 km/h. The bar was undamaged but the left headlight , grille, and left crush can were destroyed. And the left frame rail compressed 10mm. That was Mitsubishi Triton.
A colleague inserted a smallish roo through the bullbar on a Ford Falcon sedan going ‘quite fast’. The roo went through the left headlight, between the inner and outer guards and straight into the bulkhead. It shifted the front end alignment of the car some 15mm to the right and nearly 10mm up. Bullbar was largely undamaged visibly but was savagely twisted once it came off the car. The car was repaired but the left door never sealed properly again.
One of the local farmers walloped a full grown male red roo at 110 km/h pl us in a Nissan Patrol ute with a 5 post bull bar. It was a direct hit on the right front. As before...the bar was largely undamaged but the frame twisted under the load, shoved the bar up, squashed the right side body, bent the axle casing and distorted the firewall and A pillar to the point the drivers door wouldn’t open and the roof was buckled. On a level concrete floor...it was sitting on just three wheels.
